About CyberCash
Kent Henry Ministries uses CyberCash to verify credit cards at the time
of purchase and to pass on credit information to your financial
institution for settlement with our bank. Cybercash provides real-time
authorization; this means that if you have entered your credit card
number incorrectly, you will receive an error message. Use the Back
button on your browser to go back and correct your error, then press the
Submit button again. CyberCash® is a corporation that offers a secure
gateway through which credit card information is passed to the private
network used by all the financial institutions for authorization and
capture of credit card funds. The authorization request is the encrypted
electronic message that is sent from the merchant's storefront through
the CyberCash CashRegister to the consumer's credit card issuing
financial institution for approval of the transaction.CyberCash has been
servicing credit cards securely over the Internet since April 1995. The
CyberCash CashRegister software connects our website to the CyberCash
payment services, enabling us to accept secure, real-time payments at
our website. CyberCash provides an extra level of security because the
credit card is encrypted and is only seen by Cybercash.
To protect the integrity of merchant transactions, the CashRegister 3
Service that we use supports the Internet's strongest security
technologies, including Netscape's SSL (Secure Socket Layer) and the
CyberCash-provided triple DES solution. CyberCash transactions are
protected by the highest levels of security available to ensure security
and privacy for anyone who wants to conduct business on the Internet.
Since 1995, CyberCash has been the leader in facilitating secure credit
card transactions over the Internet. The CyberCash brand has become
established as an industry standard for secure Internet credit card
payment processing.
Using an SSL-capable Browser
Our web host provider uses SSL (secure socket layer) technology for
our website security. All the more current browsers support this
technology. Netscape Navigator and Microsoft Internet Explorer versions
3.0 and higher are both SSL-capable. Netscape Communicator 4.0 and AOL
3.0 and higher are also SSL-capable. You can tell you have entered into
a secure session by the following signs:
Netscape browsers -- Show their security symbols in the bottom
left corner of your browser window. Look for either a solid key or
closed padlock. If the connection is not secure, the key will be broken
or the padlock will be open.
Internet Explorer -- Shows a padlock in the lower right corner
of your browser when the session is secure. If the session is not
secure, no padlock will be shown.
AOL -- In the address bar, AOL adds the letter "s" to the http
that precedes the URL of the Web site you want to go to. (e.g.
https://store.kenthenrymin.org). In version 4.0 and higher, a padlock
will appear in the lower right corner when you are in a secure
session.
You can customize all the browsers, requesting to receive a security
message prompt whenever you are about to enter or leave pages that are
secure.
Steps to a Secure On-Line Purchase
- Consumer enters payment and shipping information at the Kent Henry
Ministries web store to initiate the purchase process using an SSL-based
browser (such as Netscape Navigator, Internet Explorer, etc.) WebCom
receives the purchase request and returns a summary of the order
including item selected, price, credit card number, shipping address,
and order number.
- Consumer verifies the information and clicks the red "Submit
Secure Order" Button to send the packet of information back to WebCom.
- WebCom receives the packet of information, strips the order
information, and forwards the payment information digitally signed and
encrypted to the CyberCash server.
- The CyberCash server receives the packet, moves the transaction
behind its firewall and off the Internet, unwraps the packet within a
hardware-based crypto box (the same ones the banks use to handle PINs
as they are shipped from an ATM network), reformats the transaction,
and forwards it to the Kent Henry Ministries' bank over dedicated
lines.
- Kent Henry Ministries's bank forwards the authorization request to
the issuing bank via the card associations or directly to Discover.
The approval or denial code is sent back to CyberCash.
- CyberCash returns the approval or denial code to Webcom. If the
card is approved, the customer will see an order confirmation screen
which he can print to save a receipt of his purchase. If the card is
denied, the customer will receive an error message from WebCom. Steps
1-6 take approximately 15-20 seconds to complete.
